Curriculum Packets

The Olympic Peninsula Customs Museum Project, in collaboration with the Academy of Washington's Center for the Study of the Pacific Northwest (CSPN) offers curriculum study packets for teachers on some of the topics covered in this website.

The material is advisable for use in middle- and high-school courses but may be useful in other educational environments. The packets include thematic essays, lists of primary sources, lesson plans, timelines, glossaries, maps, and source lists. They tin also be downloaded as complete PDF files.

Over one thousand images past commercial photographer Clark Kinsey documenting the logging and milling camps and other forest related activities in Washington State, ca. 1910-1945.
Darius Kinsey -

130 images from the menstruation 1890-1939, documenting the logging industry in Washington State. Includes images of loggers and logging camps, sideslip roads, donkey engines, loading operations, logging trucks and railroads.
Salmon Collection -

Several hundred photographs and 23 documents describing the identify of salmon in the Pacific Northwest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and the roots of the salmon crisis.
Washington State Localities -

Over 1,250 photographs in an ever-growing database of historical images from Washington State including cities and towns, fortifications, public works, and national parks.
Washington State Pioneer Life Database -

A collection of writings, diaries, letters, and reminiscences drawn from various sources within the Special Collections Division collections that recount the early on settlement of Washington in the 19th century, the institution of homesteads and towns and the hardships faced by many of the early pioneers.

While this Academy of Washington Libraries online exhibit does not focus exclusively on the Olympic Peninsula, it does provide an overview of logging operations and camp life in the expanse.
